"Soup of the Day"...just got serious!
There is a lot of literature out there on the power of being different. The importance of honouring your uniqueness. Of being strong and courageous and holding true to your different-ness because this will open doors, build new bridges, change the world.
It’s not so easy. It would be – I imagine – almost overwhelming when the prospect of being different is accompanied by immense fear.
How do you move forward in the world with determination and conviction when you are – because you must – constantly looking over one shoulder?
Dante Bowen was gushing in excitement about his newly earned driver’s license. His father – Orlando Bowen, former Argonauts linebacker – remembers that within seconds, his dialogue turned grey: “Can you make sure the ownership and registration is easily accessible, so if I ever get stopped I can take it out and put it on the dash so I can keep my hands where they can see them?”
Dante will drive to lacrosse practice with trepidation. Must all his drives and ambitions be tempered with fear?

We speak in dramatic voices about how Coronavirus will change the world permanently. That the changes will be both unfamiliar and unsettling. A handmade quilt is beautiful and resilient. The different patches carefully sewn together and connected create a matrix of flexible strength that can be pulled and stretched in many directions without tearing the fabric. A new, strange world needs this knitting of all different fabrics. Trusting, connecting, and collaborating with different people absolutely encourages innovation, creativity, flexibility, and optimal conditions for survival. We keep failing to do this well. Will we fare any better this time?
Inspiration of the Day
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” – Author/Source uncertain
